Great reflection. Reminds me of Bruce Lee who said “be like water” - which always stood out to me.

One of the reasons I love Tim Ferriss’ media. He purposely cultivates different kinds of content so as not to be typecast or boxed in

Same! His podcast has been my top played one for probably the past 6+ years. I've learned so much from it, specifically because he speaks to so many kinds of people and knows how to ask the right questions to reflect all of their different sides - love it :)

Though I would apply this to my experience in a different way, I find your points highly inspiring and validating. Thank you for sharing this, Erifili! For me it turns a complex configuration that seemed isolating into another way to belong.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there are three ways to “make it”, whatever making it means (to me it means being able to supplement and eventually have the option to easily earn a living from my creations):

1 play the game well, work the algorithms, find a niche, be what others want you to be… Boring! But it works if you know what you are doing. I would rather get an office job.

2 Get lucky. Not a matter of choice, most people won’t.

3 Go hard! Bring everything you got. Be as real as you can possibly be, burn everything until only the most authentic things remain. This can mean different things to different people.

You are right, the people I respect the most are all hard to define, and many of the people who transcend the rest are as well…but none of them half assed it!

I've been trying so hard to change myself into a niche: I always try to only like things that match together and become the "girl of my dreams" but slowly I've been trying my best to unlearn this thought pattern: to throw yourself into your life and all your likes is a brave thing. learning!

loved this piece, thanks for sharing!

"I work in social media and have used it for over a decade to reach like-minded people and share my interests, and I love what it facilitates- but it never feels quite right." This is exactly what I've been feeling for years. Internet and social media are tools, and no tool is black or white. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
